Groundbreaking Ceremony Launches Newport Beach’s Marina Park Project

Formerly home to 57 mobile homes on-site since 1955, Marina Park, Newport Beach’s long anticipated public park and marina, was recently initiated on February 11, 2014 with a groundbreaking ceremony. The project, designed by Rabben/Herman Design Office and Bundy-Finkel Architects, spans 10.4-acres and when completed, will feature a 24,000 s.f. sailing and community center; 23-slip marina for visiting boaters; new Girl Scout House; and revamped tennis and basketball courts. Construction of the marina is expected to start immediately, with more than 36,000 cubic yards of dredged sand to replenish beaches at Corona del Mar’s China Cove and around the Newport Pier area. Once the marina is finished, demolition of the present landside facilities will begin, with completion of the new structures and park expected by Spring 2016.
