SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – October 1, 2014 – Fuscoe Engineering, Inc. is pleased to announce that one of its projects, Celadon at 9th and Broadway by BRIDGE Housing, has won the Builder’s Choice Grand Award, for On the Boards projects.
For more than 30 years, BUILDER has enlisted top builders and residential architects as jurors for their prestigious annual competition. The Builder’s Choice Design and Planning Awards serve as a leading barometer of the latest trends and influences in architecture, design and community planning throughout the nation.
This mixed-use project, currently under construction, addresses an unusually complex program. Located in a redeveloping urban area, it combines commercial uses at street level with 250 affordable rental units above, including 63 apartments for elderly tenants and 25 for young adults formerly in foster care. “It’s like having two neighborhoods in one building,” said architect Ernesto Vasquez, Partner and CEO at SVA Architects, adding that getting the project off the ground required an all-fronts effort to secure funding, generate neighborhood support, and solve the technical problems of building on a tight urban infill site (half an acre). This project is also being designed to qualify for LEED Silver certification, with enhancements such as an eco-roof with drought tolerant planting; sustainable landscaping and open spaces; photovoltaic system; and highly efficient mechanical systems. The project is scheduled for completion in Spring 2015.
