New Affordable Apartments Revitalize Carson Street Corridor

The recent Grand Opening of VIA 401 Apartments, a Related California development, marks the second and final phase of this new affordable community, financed through a combination of public and private resources. Designed by Withee Malcolm Architects, the vibrant VIA 401 development provides 40 new apartment homes for families earning up to 60% of the area’s median income. Previously the site of vacant city-owned lots, VIA 401 adjoins VIA 425, the first project phase. The combined 2.8-acre site includes a total of 105 affordable units. Both phases are served by a 3,000 sf community center that offers residents social services, after school programs, classes, a computer room, fitness room and laundry facilities. The community center also includes a recreational courtyard with tot lot and children’s play area. Fuscoe provided comprehensive civil services for both of these projects and utilized a “golf inline filter” to satisfy the SUSMP requirements.
