3 Award Submittals – and 3 Wins!

The Fuscoe Engineering team provided services for three of Orange County’s premier projects and submitted them for the 2016 ASCE-OC awards – and all three projects won! ASCE stands for the American Society of Civil Engineers, which represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, the ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society. ASCE’s Orange County branch pays tribute to accomplishments within the civil engineering field by presenting annual awards for the County’s finest engineering projects. The three winning projects are:

ALEGRE AFFORDABLE APARTMENTS

Urban or Land Development Project of the Year Award

Alegre Affordable Apartments

Alegre is an award-winning affordable LEED Gold-certified apartment complex on 3.5 acres in Irvine. This $42.6M project features 104 one- to four-bedroom units and was formed through a partnership between the City of Irvine, The Irvine Company, Irvine Community Land Trust and AMCAL. Las Palmas Foundation is the non-profit development partner and CalHFA provided funding for permanent supportive housing for developmentally disabled persons.

MARINA PARK

Architectural Engineering Project of the Year and Airports & Ports Project of the Year Awards

Marina Park

Marina Park features unique public recreational marine facilities on a 10.5-acre waterfront infill site. The project entailed dredging of 45,000 cubic yards of soil to construct a 23-slip transient vessel boating marina and features a 24,000 sf Community & Sailing Center building, designed to meet LEED silver standards, and a five-acre landscaped park with nautical-themed playground with lighthouse feature and on-site café, as well as frontage street improvements.

LAGUNA BEACH FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS ENTRY

Historical Renovation Project of the Year Award

Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts Entry

Long overdue for a facelift, the City commissioned Bauer Architects to revamp the Festival of the Arts aging entry, gateways and frontage area, covering approximately one acre and approximately 500 LF along Laguna Canyon Road. Approximately one-third of the frontage adjacent to Laguna Canyon Road (SR133) is within the State of California right-of-way, resulting in multiple agencies having jurisdiction on various portions of the project.
