Project Description

Alondra Park Pool, Skate Park & Splash Pad

Formerly the site of a large community pool, this new $16.5M project is situated on 3.9 acres adjacent a lake and golf course and features a new, smaller and more energy efficient 25 X 25 meter competitive swimming pool; 6K s.f. pool house and recreation building; 3K s.f. splash pad/water play area; 14K s.f. in-ground skateboard park and picnic shelters. Seven small service buildings accommodate restrooms, pool equipment, lockers, storage, concessions and a lifeguard training facility.

The Fuscoe team provided full civil engineering design for the project, which presented a number of challenges, including creative grading design; incorporating a drop grade to achieve an infinity pool effect; and utilizing bioswales to treat stormwater before it flows into the adjacent lake. Difficult water and sewer constraints existed as well. The team faced sewer capacity issues and a complicated on-site water system with multiple water purveyors in the area surrounding the site. To achieve its Gold LEED rating, plans were developed to retain existing trees and shrubs, divert drainage to landscaped areas and use drought-tolerant landscaping that both conserves water and minimizes run-off. Project coordination with the various consultants, including FWA and general contractor Woodcliff Corporation, as well as the County of Los Angeles, was very involved.
