Project Description
Chapman university Marion Knott Studios Dodge College of Film & Media Arts
Chapman University’s College of Film & Media Arts encompasses an 8-acre campus of studio facilities with commercial quality sound stages, production support facilities, offices, classrooms, backlot, screening rooms, commissary, mill, shops and storage. The initial work phase involved construction of a unique 76K s.f. multi-story building housing a 500-seat theater and several studio-sized mini theatres for teaching and critiquing student created films. Located on a former factory site in historic Old Town Orange, the project spans a small city block, bounded on all four sides by concrete streets dating from the 1920’s. The flat infill site required demolition of the existing factory structure, comprehensive civil plans and extensive coordination with Chapman University, Abacus (project/construction managers) and the University architect, Bastien and Associates, Inc.
