HomeAid’s Project Playhouse
Fuscoe Engineering staff members have long participated in Project Playhouse, HomeAid Orange County’s signature annual fundraiser. For over 20 years, builder teams have donated their time, talent and resources to construct elaborate playhouses, which are then auctioned off. To date, $6.3M has been raised through Project Playhouse for HomeAid Orange County, a national charitable non-profit that has built or renovated 50 housing developments to date for homeless families.
Created with a consortium of contributors who provided services ranging from architectural design to construction, Fuscoe donated pro bono civil engineering services for the Ocean Adventure Lab playhouse, which won the People’s Choice Award and awards for Best Modern Design and Best Team Spirit and Community Outreach. Additionally, the U.S. Green Building Council, Orange County Chapter, presented the Ocean Adventure Lab with an Honorary Certification for its application of LEED principles and design and construction practices. The playhouse’s sustainable features include use of locally manufactured and recycled materials; composite wood construction; 100% natural wool insulation; energy efficient lighting; use of drought-tolerant native California foliage; and rooftop photovoltaic solar modules providing renewable energy, making the playhouse a net zero structure. The Ocean Adventure Lab’s interior includes a working wave tank, microscopes and a projector featuring underwater sea creatures.
