Project Description

Painted Hills Middle School

Located on a 22-acre sloped site, the new two-level, 138,000 s.f. school is composed of classroom wings joined by a central administration and library/media center. “The vertical design of the two-level middle school provides a cost and environmentally-efficient facility that promotes the physical, mental and social development of the students,” said Roger Clarke, principal of Ruhnau Ruhnau Clarke Associates, the school’s architect.

Fuscoe provided survey staking services for this state-of-the-art educational facility. The Painted Hills Middle School’s sustainable elements meet CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) certification requirements. “Green” features include energy efficient plumbing and water systems; cool roof with a thermoplastic membrane layer with high solar reflectivity; occupancy lighting sensors; and HVAC and lighting systems controlled by an energy management system (EMS) to minimize use during non-school hours.
