Project Description

Sakura Crossing Apartments

Sakura Crossing urban mixed-use apartments, designed by TCA, are located within the Little Tokyo Block 8 Master Plan redevelopment in the Little Toyko district of downtown Los Angeles, spanning almost an entire 6.1-acre city block. The master plan includes a 346K s.f. residential building with underground parking, ¼ acre pocket park, enhanced landscaping, pedestrian promenades and street-level retail. Sakura Crossing has transformed an old surface parking lot into a vibrant, 24-hour pedestrian – and transit-oriented mixed-use community that has revitalized the area aesthetically and economically.

Fuscoe provided boundary, topographic and ALTA surveys as well as lot line adjustments, tract maps and construction staking in addition to comprehensive civil engineering services for this project. The Fuscoe Engineering staff confronted a number of site plan development issues. The tight infill location complicated placement of utilities and coordination with the various consultants, as well as the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, was complex. Additionally, there is no off-site storm drain, so sheet flow drainage was necessary and meeting SUSMP requirements for the City proved challenging.
