Project Description

St. Mary’s College of California Campus Master Plan Update

Fuscoe is assisting St. Mary’s College, a 420-acre private college in Northern California, with a Campus Master Plan update. The team prepared an Existing Conditions and Opportunities Report to address campus infrastructure. Coordination with campus staff, existing document review and field reconnaissance yielded utility base maps for stormwater, sanitary sewer, water and other site utilities.

Special attention was directed toward maintaining sustainability from both an economical and environmental perspective, including preservation of open space for stormwater quality treatment and detention areas while maintaining a park-like atmosphere; use of pervious surfaces such as gravel, crushed aggregate or open paver systems for courtyards and patio areas to reduce stormwater runoff and impacts to downstream creeks; construction of stormwater treatment wetlands at low-lying open space areas to create a beneficial aquatic element while adding significant aesthetic and biological value; restoration of creek corridors and biological habitats, including watershed areas as natural riparian amenities; reduction of water and sewer system demands by installation of low-flow fixtures and low-flow/drip irrigation and native plants; consideration of alternate energy sources such as solar panels; and repair and replacement of aging infrastructure.
