Project Description

Terranea Resort & Golf Course

The exclusive, world-class Terranea Resort project is built on the partially vacated Marineland site and adjacent natural and undisturbed coastal bluff areas in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The Resort encompasses 102 acres of land with premium hotel frontage on the Pacific Ocean.

The Fuscoe team provided grading, utilities and site work design in addition to water quality and storm drain solutions that were welcomed by the Coastal Commission. Fuscoe redefined the runoff management plan to meet the City’s flood control requirements and provide water quality design features before discharging runoff into the ocean. The Coastal Commission also applauded the team for taking an “eco-adaptive®” approach to the civil design with the incorporation of treatment wetlands and bio-infiltration swales for the hotel. The golf course utilizes a multi-purpose bio-swale and flood control corridor in addition to water quality basins to treat on-site and off-site runoff. A creative “vertical tunnel” to drop drainage down onto the shoreline tidal zone was also developed.

Fuscoe Engineering consulted with the former owners of the development to assist in obtaining project approvals with the City of Rancho Palos Verdes. Fuscoe staff members conducted public presentations with several environmental and community groups to share the project’s designs and earn their support.
