Westside Canal Battery Storage

Dashiell Corporation

Located on approximately 163 acres of jointly owned land, it represents the largest storage asset in SDGE’s utility-owned energy storage portfolio, capable of storing around 2,000 MW of energy.

The infrastructure includes a 230kV loop-in switching station, a 34.5kV to 230 kV project substation, and underground electrical cables. The implementation will occur in 3 to 5 phases, spread across a decade, with each phase ranging from approximately 25 MW to 400 MW. A significant challenge in the early stages was accounting for the drainage of the entire project during the first phase, which involved just a portion of the overall site. Fuscoe recognized the steps necessary to account for the future needs of the project early on. Thoughtful collaboration from the design team enabled the development of conceptual level layouts of the future phases to masterplan the long term drainage design of the project.
