Placentia, CA
Santa Angelina Senior Community
National CORE for Episcopal Communities & Services for Seniors
The City of Placentia approved construction of 64 affordable senior apartments on the 3.9-acre grounds of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
The apartments are specified for seniors age 62+ with incomes below 60% of the median area income; 21 units permanently reserved for unhoused seniors; and a manager’s unit. The project is comprised of 2 two-story buildings with laundry facilities, street-level parking lot and landscaped open space. Also, a 1,500 sf community center will be constructed as a hub for events and supportive services. This private project is not funded by the city; it is a collaborative effort between the church and National CORE, a reputable non-profit affordable housing developer.
Designing around an existing operational church, playground and classroom building posed significant challenges. Other considerations included designs for ADA path of travel and four drywells with storage to replenish the area groundwater.
