The new design-build UCI Middle Earth housing project, designed by architect Mithun, features two residential towers above a mixed-use podium with lush landscaping. The LEED® Platinum undergraduate housing complex comprises 495 beds, kitchenettes, laundry facilities and student gathering spaces.
The Fuscoe team provided full engineering design, which included excavation plans, site utility plans, water quality treatment Best Management Practices (BMPs), grading, drainage and storm drain design. Due to the tight infill campus site, underground utilities presented challenges throughout the duration of the project. Fuscoe’s ongoing coordination efforts with the contractor resulted in the successful implementation of design alternatives.
